For the next five days, the Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a warning of severe winds and huge waves that might create havoc in several regions of the nation.
The Meteorological Department warned the poor weather may vary based on the location in an alert issued on Thursday, June 2, 2022. On June 6, 2022, normal weather patterns are likely to return.
“The wind speed is expected to strengthen to more than 40 knots (20.6 MIS) from Friday to Saturday 4th June, 9 00 am. Thereafter, the wind speed is likely to reduce to 25 knots from Sunday 5th to Monday 6th June 2022,” said David Gikungu, the Director, Kenya Meteorological Services.
Furthermore, the weatherman predicted that the wave height over the Kenyan Indian Ocean Coastal waters will be more than 2.5 meters from Friday to Sunday, then drop to 2.2 meters on Monday.
Turkana, Marsabit, Samburu, Isiolo, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Meru counties are predicted to be impacted.
Kitui, Makueni, Taita Taveta, Tana River, Lamu, Kilifi, Mombasa, and Kwale are among the others.
Residents in the counties have been warned to keep an eye out for a possible gate (very strong winds) and huge waves over the Indian Ocean.
Strong winds, according to the department, can blow roofs off, uproot trees, and inflict structural damage.
