Some 12 people who had previously tested positive for Coronavirus in Turkana county have fully recovered, County director of medical services Dr. Gilchrist Lokoel has confirmed.

Addressing the press in Lodwar, Lokoel said the county had recorded 28 active cases since the pandemic hit the country in March.

“We have 15 active cases at the moment, four at IRC Kakuma hospital and 11 at Kanamkemer sub county hospital in Turkana central,” said Lokoel adding out of the 15 only one is symptomatic.

In addition, the director said the county has managed to screen 597,389 cases so far.

Among the busiest screening points are at border of West Pokot and Turkana county at Kainuk, Lodwar county referral hospital and Lodwar airstrip which resumed operation on July 17 after President Uhuru Kenyatta lifted the ban on domestic air travel.

“A total of 1,250 samples have been collected so far. More samples are being collected for surveillance and administrative purposes,” he added. He said a total of 100 people were in quarantine as at Monday July 20, 2020.

Speaking at the same presser, county executive committee member for health Jane Ajele urged residents to take personal responsibility and adhere to health protocols.

“There is no cause for panic as our officers are doing everything possible to assist those infected,” stressed Anjele.

On his part, county health Chief officer, Roberts Abok, said the price of a full protective gear which previously sold at Sh16,000 now costs Sh.7,000-8,000 while the cost of a pack of 50 masks has also dropped drastically.
