2000 women from Kesses constituency in Uasin Gishu County have benefited from vegetable and maize seed plus fertilizer worth more than Sh. 250m from the area MP Dr. Swarup Mishra.

Dr. Mishra said the seeds were short-term maturing and were meant to ensure the beneficiaries and their families are cushioned from the effects of Covid-19 and flooding by having sufficient food within three months.

Addressing the beneficiaries at Mugundoi, Cheptiret/Kipchamo ward, Dr. Mishra said the country was already experiencing food shortages which will be worse in the next six months.

He said he decided to empower the women who will use their kitchen gardens to grow vegetables that they will use for their families and also sale to get some income.

The MP said it was better for the families to grow their own food instead of depending on handouts and relief food from government, “it is better to teach people how to fish instead of giving them the fish every time”, he said.

One of the beneficiaries, Milka Chelimo from Mugundoi thanked the MP for his support saying that with the seeds she will be able to grow vegetables and when ready she will no longer need to walk all the way to the market in search of vegetable
