A 24-year-old man has been charged with causing serious harm to his six-month-old twins after he reportedly tormented and severely wounded them.

After reportedly abusing the twins on July 6 at his home in Kibera’s Raila slum, Fredrick Okello has been accused of inflicting injuries on the boy and girl.

Nancy Kerubo, the prosecution’s counsel, contested the accused request for cash bail and informed the court that the infants were still being brought to the Kenyatta National Hospital, where one was being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU).

The infants’ mother had left them with their father and went to visit their neighbour but came back to chaos as the young boy writhed in pain.

The accused reportedly beat her when she tried to find out what had occurred and locked the home to stop her from taking the babies to the hospital.

The following day, she made her getaway and brought the kids to a neighboring hospital, where it was discovered that one of them had a broken leg. Both kids are receiving treatment at KNH after being referred there.

The accused refuted the accusations before Senior Principal Magistrate Esther Bhoke of the Kibera Law Courts and w ithout the chance to post cash bail, he was freed on a surety bond of Sh500,000. The case will be mentioned on July 26, 2022.
