Some 5,000 vulnerable people in Murang’a County have benefited from assorted food from the office of the county Woman Representative to cushion them from the effects of Covid -19.
The beneficiaries, who were selected by interior administrators, included the aged and people who lost their jobs due to the impact of coronavirus.
Speaking when she flagged off the food to be distributed to each of the eight sub counties on Thursday, the Woman Representative Sabina Chege said the food was purchased with funds from the government through women representative offices to cushion effects of covid-19.
Chege said through her initiative she managed to mobilize well-wishers who responded well and ensured the food given could take a family for several days.
Apart from the assorted food stuff, face masks and sanitizers were also distributed to help those at grassroots combat spread of coronavirus.
“We have distributed food stuff among other items including masks, soaps and sanitizers to selected less fortunate people drawn from across the county. The demand for food is quite high considering many people have lost their jobs due to the impact of coronavirus,” Chege said.
She added, “My office has received many requests from people trying to get food but unfortunately the food we have mobilized is not enough.”
The Woman Representative asked business community, the professionals and other well-wishers to come out and assist families currently struggling to get food at a time when many economic activities have been paralyzed.
