Following a tip from a member of the public, police in Webuye detained a 55-year-old man who was transporting 550 kilograms of bhang to Eldoret. East Webuye station Chief officer Gloria Ng’etich confirmed the occurrence stating that the culprit was apprehended about 6 a.m. on Tuesday, June 14, 2022.
Residents were advised not to engage in unlawful activities and Ng’etich assured them that security would be tightened in hotspot locations. The suspect is in police custody and will be arraigned once the investigation is completed.
“Bhang is and remains illegal in Kenya. And it’s not for good reasons that the plant is prohibited. The socioeconomic downside of the herb outweighs the gain. That’s the more reason NPS is on the offensive of eradicating the cultivation and use of illegal drugs, bhang inclusive, alongside other prohibited drinks. Drug dealers and users, be warned!” NPS wrote on their social media platforms.
