ActionAid International Kenya has donated 400 detergents worth Sh608, 000 to be distributed to all health facilities in Embu County.

While receiving the donations Thursday, the County Executive Member for Health, Patrick Waganagwa appreciated the donation noting that the non-government organization has contributed immensely even in other sectors.

He said the detergents will be supplied to all health facilities to boost the fight against covid-19 pandemic and other communicable diseases.

Waganagwa said cleanliness around health facilities was crucial in the fight against the novel pandemic, adding that with the detergents the healthcare workers would be assured of a safe working environment.

On covid-19, the county executive said that local healthcare workers were well prepared for the calamity, adding that they have already received requisite training and also armed with anti-coronavirus protective gear.

Waganagwa further said so far there were three confirmed cases of covid-19 in the county, while specimen samples for other suspected cases have been sent to Nairobi for analysis.

He said the results are ready in three to four days, adding that they do not charge for the swap.

ActionAid Regional Coordinator Chimera Mwachidudu, said the donation signified the organization’s efforts in the fight against covid-19 pandemic, by way of maintaining proper hygiene standards in partnership with Unilever Industries.

He said apart from this particular donation, they have also donated anti-covid-19 protective equipment to boda boda riders, community health volunteers and other members of the society.

Mwachidudu also noted that they have been creating awareness by distributing covid-19 posters to various groups.
