Community based learning has (CBL) officially kicked off in Mandera to engage students during the Covid-19 pandemic period.
Speaking during the opening of Komor CBL, Mandera East sub county TSC Director Hussein Hassan noted the government is committed to building students’ life skills and making them more productive in real life situations.
Mr Hassan said TSC has stationed 960 teachers for the programme in the entire county and added more stations will be opened in the entire county.
Some 15 students have reported at the Komor centre and will be taught life skills to make them more productive in the society.
The government has engaged area chiefs and community policing elders to identify students from both primary and secondary learning institutions to be engaged in the CBL.
The centres will act as engagement centres for learners to make them more involved in learning activities for better education results in the region.
Reading in schools will also be part of the learning process to build capacity among the learners in the region.
TSC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Nancy Macharia directed all teachers under the Ministry of Education to undertake community based learning without charging parents with effect from August 12.
