DP William Ruto weeps during prayer service

In the midst of a group prayer service on Tuesday at his official house in Karen, Nairobi, Deputy President William Ruto broke down in tears as he was deep in prayer.

The DP has previously been photographed crying in front of others. In a video that his PR team posted, the DP can be seen sobbing while keeping his eyes shut. He burys his face in his hands at one point.

Other churchgoers could be heard singing a worship tune in the background. Rachel, Ruto’s wife, is seen singing along with the DP in the video.

Other Kenya Kwanza Alliance officials joined Bishop Mark Kariuki of Deliverance Church International to lead a prayer session.

The DP urged Kenyans to cast their votes for the right candidates in big numbers during the service.

“If you don’t show up to vote, you should not complain when wrong people are elected. This election is more of a spiritual battle than a political battle, and that is why we have all manner of things that are going on today,” Ruto said.

“We believe in a united country and we want peace for our nation. I want to ask Kenyan from all walks of life, from both sides of the political divide to be peaceful so that we can work together as Kenyans and know that after the election, God’s will will prevail and we will walk together as a united nation,” Ruto added.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has chosen Mr. Odinga as his preferred successor after having a falling out with Dr. Ruto. President Kenyatta and his deputy have recently been verbally sparring in public as the election day approaches. The head of state has accused Ruto of being disloyal and power-hungry while the DP has been accusing the president of treachery and being unappreciative.
