Kenya Kwanza presidential candidate Dr. William Ruto

In an edited video shared on Twitter by Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho and Suna East MP Junet Mohamed, remarks that have been attributed to Deputy President William Ruto are said to be inciting. Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji has ordered the Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai to look into the matter.

The comments are in an edited video that were widely shared on Tuesday and shows Mr. Ruto telling residents from Western and Central Kenya residing in Uasin Gishu county to leave the area.

In the original film, Mr. Ruto can be heard grumbling about a purported official scheme to rig Tuesday’s elections using chiefs. Additionally, he informs non-Kalenjin people of Uasin Gishu that the county is the residence of every Kenyan.

The video was later altered to show Ruto threatening non-Kalenjin citizens of Uasin Gishu county, and it was widely shared in an effort to incite fear.

“Consequently, pursuant to Article 157 (4) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, you are hereby directed to undertake comprehensive investigations into the aforementioned video clips including publication, the authenticity and source thereto. The investigation file should be submitted to the office of the undersigned, within seven days of the date hereof,” he stated.
