Busia County Chairman of National Council Benjamin Shilekha has urged youth to develop a saving culture.
Speaking to the youth during a sensitization forum in preparation for the launch of Kazi Mtaani programmeat Busia Polytechnic on Thursday, Shilekha said that a number of youth have been lamenting over lack of capital for small scale investment.
“This programme is the initiative of President Uhuru Kenyatta aimed at engaging the youth,” he said adding that the youth should be able to save some money within the six month programme and invest in other areas.
He advised the youth to take the project seriously adding that it would enable them to venture into small scale businesses.
The official further urged the youth champions to exercise discipline and guide the Kazi Mtaani recruits who would undertake the social protection exercise.
“So I expect maximum cooperation and discipline among you,” he said, promising the County Commissioner of maximum cooperation to ensure that the programme succeeds.
Busia Municipality Manager Ken Nabulindo explained that the programme aimed at empowering the youth who have been affected by the COVID 19 pandemic.
Nabulindo urged the youth to be patriotic and participate actively in the Country’s development.
“I want to urge you to ensure that those who will be under your supervision carry out meaningful work,” he said.
Busia County Commissioner Joseph Kanyiri urged the champions to be role models to others by adhering to the Ministry of Health directives.
Kanyiri explained that the programme aimed at cushioning the youth against the negative effects of COVID 19.
He also warned the supervisors against corruption adding that relevant stakeholders would ensure maximum supervision during the exercise.
“The structure is that there is a National Secretariat, County Secretariat and other committees at the grassroots level to ensure the success of the programme,” he said adding that a total of 3,304 would be recruited for the exercise.
The CC further told the champions to sensitize the recruits about issues of patriotism and the need to adhere to the Ministry of Health directives during the exercise.
The six month programme is slated for launch on Monday next week within Busia Municipality.
