The Kakamega County Water and Sanitation Corporation is constructing a 5,000 cubic metres water tank at Lirhanda, Shinyalu Sub County.
Speaking during the launch on Monday, Governor Wycliffe Oparanya said the water project would enable residents access piped, clean and safe water.
Oparanya said the project set to be completed in four months would boost water supply and mitigate any existing water rationing.
“The reservoir will serve the residents of Milimani estate, Kakamega town as well as the community and institutions within this area,” he said.
He noted that besides the Lirhanda water project, the county government with support of other partners was implementing Lugari-Musembe water project in Lugari, Misango hills and Lwakhupa water projects in Khwisero and Navakholo sub counties respectively as well as the Industrial park water project in Mumias.
Meanwhile, the county head revealed that the construction works on the Kakamega airstrip-Chepsonoi road would commence soon.
The road is an important link between Vihiga and Kakamega counties through the tropical Kakamega rain forest.
“The Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of National Government Dr. Fred Matiang’i and his Transport and Infrastructure counterpart James Macharia will soon be here to inspect national government projects within the county,” he said.
He added that the road is among stalled government projects in the region and plans are under to complete them.
