If elected alongside Raila Odinga, Martha Karua has pledged to make education free starting 2023 January.

“We will need the rest of this year to put things in order and from January 2023 we will streamline the education sector to make education free from primary school to university,” she said.

Ms. Karua stated that the Azimio administration plans to introduce free education from basic schools to the university level during a joint interview with central Kenyan vernacular radio stations.

Even though the free education scheme has been in place since the Mwai Kibaki government, parents are nevertheless expected to pay to fill in the funding gaps blaming the lack of full implementation of the fight against corruption.

“If we weed out corruption, we will need to inject very little money into the current provisions to make education absolutely free,” she said.

She had also looked into the debate surrounding the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission’s (IEBC) readiness for the elections in ten days. She criticized the commission for being disorganized and urged IEBC personnel to be diligent in carrying out their individual responsibilities.
