Kenya Medical Research Institute on Tuesday, 15 launched two innovations; on COVID-19 and Malaria. The research institute came up with COVID-19 and Malaria detection testing kits. The innovations showcase the country’s advanced innovation accomplishments.

Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Rashid Aman described the innovation as a major milestone for the country. He added that the two kits will enhance Malaria diagnostics and COVID-19 disease detection which are both a national and global health challenge.

The CAS assured that the Ministry of Health will support the institution by purchasing their products to ensure continued production and more innovation and development.

“I want to congratulate the team and leadership for having taken up the challenge by His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta to come up with local solutions to our local problems,” he added.

The new Malaria testing kit will go for only Ksh60 compared to the current one that goes for Ksh300 at various health centers while the Covid-19 PCR kit that has been charged at Ksh8,000 in various private hospitals will be going for Ksh1,500.

Dr.Aman has urged Kenyans to celebrate and support the new innovation while commending the KEMRI leadership and the whole team of researchers and scientists for the great milestone achieved.
