A police officer was on Monday evening brutally killed in Tchundwa village in Lamu County under unclear circumstances.
According to a police incident report Constable Rodger Odhiambo Otieno who was attached to the Tchundwa police post was found dead at 7:30 pm.
He was allegedly waylaid and killed by unknown people as he walked through the village solely and unarmed.
It has been established that the officer only had a walking stick.
The incident report further states that he suffered deep cuts on his forehead, neck, cheek and left knee.
His body was moved to Faza Sub County Hospital for preservation.
Lamu County Commissioner Samson Macharia confirmed the incident today, revealing that investigations are currently underway to establish the reason behind the police officer’s brutal murder.
Tchundwa and Mbwajumwali villages in Faza division have become synonymous with insecurity and frequent attacks of police officers and administrators.
Last year a police officer and two chiefs were reportedly killed in a span of three months.
The then Mbwajumwali Location Chief Mohammed Famau and Myabogi Assistant Chief Malik Athman were hacked to death by masked men.
Since then the two posts of chief and assistant chief remain vacant.
Last year also, a Kenya Red Cross volunteer, Akina Bakari, who was in the forefront in the fight against drugs was killed by unknown assailants who had covered their faces in the same area. Ms.Bakari’s killers are still at large nine months down the line.
In March last year, a police constable attached to Tchundwa Police post was killed as he walked to work. His body was found five days later deep in the forest.
Lamu County Police Commander Moses Muriithi was not available to comment on the incident as he was allegedly on his way to Faza to aid in investigations.
