The trial of a 37-year-old man in Mvita, Mombasa County who sexually assaulted two young girls has revealed that children may be suffering in silence at the hands of sex pests who prey on their vulnerability.
The two minors’ statements in this case, aged seven and nine, should serve as a wake-up call to parents who do not prioritize their children’s safety and well-being.
Swaleh Mwinyi would kidnap the two girls on their way to school in the morning and drug them before defiling them.
He would do this in the evenings on occasion.
“He would defile me either very early in the morning when I am going to school or when returning from school,” one of the girls told the court.
“We did not tell anyone what had happened because he had threatened to kill us,” they said.
The parents of the minors stated that the victims did not tell them anything throughout the time the suspect was defiling them.
However, the parents were skeptical, and their worries were reinforced when a Good Samaritan came to their house and inquired about their relationship with Mwinyi.
According to court documents, the person advised them to keep an eye on the children and the suspect. When questioned if they had been violated, the youngsters denied it because Mwinyi had threatened them.
After being taken to the hospital, the youngsters admitted that the suspect used to defile them after buying them sweets and mabuyu.
Their parents were surprised having discovered that they had been sexually abused since they were in Grade One and that the suspect had threatened to murder them.
