MPs allied to Deputy President faced defeat at the National Assembly on Wednesday night losing all their proposed amendments. Azimio La Kenya registered a big win as MPs passed the Political Parties Amendment Bill that allows formation of a coalition party.

The Bill was passed after a heated proceeding that almost turned physical. After the chaotic parliamentary seating last week that left some MPs injured, Deputy Speaker Moses Cheboi made sure no water bottles were in the chambers after MPs attacked each other in the last seating.

Electronic voting fastened the whole process. Azimio La Umoja Movement can now field candidates for various posts in the coming General Elections. Allies of Uhuru and Raila beat Ruto’s team attempt to remove a clause that specifies the period of which a coalition party can be formed.

The Political Parties Amendment Bill would allow parties to form a coalition party in a period of 6 months to an election. National Assembly Majority Leader Amos Kimunya intervened moving an amendment reducing the period from six months to four months. to elections. That changed the deadline to April 9 2022.

No amendments proposed by DP Ruto allies proceeded. Despite that, Garissa Township MP ADEN Nduale still believes United Democratic Party is the biggest party in the country.
