Nyamira residents will soon benefit from a Sh 60 million water project of digging boreholes after the County government signed a memorandum of understanding with National Water Harvesting and Storage Authority (NWHSA) to enable them access clean water closer to their homes.
National Water Harvesting and Storage Authority (NWHSA) director, Erick Okeyo while speaking to the press on Tuesday during a visit to the Governor’s office, confirmed that all the negotiations on the scope within which the authority will undertake its mandate were already finished and they are ready to start the works immediately.
“The County government brought us on board because of our technical expertise which they lack and the availability of modern equipment for drilling the water the main reason why they have preferred using a fellow government department rather than use of contractors whom they are not sure of their competence in terms of delivering the required service,” the director said.
He further revealed that Nyamira County is the only one in the entire Nyanza region which has formed this MOU after Turkana which has also contracted them to build them a dam to collect water for use especially for their flock.
Mr Okeyo however observed that huge pending bills by water service providers have stalled most worth water projects in most parts of Nyanza region.
He added the County government must be keen on monitoring the management of water service provider institutions to ensure they execute their mandate of pumping clean water to residents.
