Nyeri County Governor, Mutahi Kahiga has dismissed two County Executive Committee members saying they had been appointed by his predecessor the late Dr. Wahome Gakuru. This was during a reshuffling of his cabinet.

The Governor during a press conference he also warned all County officers who are aspiring any political seats to resign from their jobs by next month.

“Anyone in government who wants to leave should write to the county now so as they are able to do so by February as the new law requires,” he said addressing a press conference

The governor had sent the two on compulsory leave almost two months ago. He has fired one of them while Kwai Wanjaria, the second officer, acting as the CEC for planning and health left the county.

Governor Kahiga has affirmed that the actions taken are not political but are to ensure smooth running of the government and to make sure power is transitioned properly.

Robert Thuo, acting finance CECM, will head the health docket which has been a county’s thorn. Education CECM Margaret Macharia will lead the lands and planning department on an acting capacity. The two positions have however been advertised by the county government of Nyeri.

He also addressed the relocation of traders and matatu operators to the new bus park outside the town saying it is the county’s priority and that it will happen before March 2022.
