Joshua Oron, a newbie to the ODM, defeats MP Fred Ouda.
The greatest loser in the recently concluded Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party primaries was Kisumu Central MP Fred Ouda, who was defeated by a rookie, Dr Joshua Oron, in a tightly contested battle.
Dr. Oron won the ODM ticket to run for the Kisumu Central parliamentary seat in the August 9 elections with 6,842 votes.
Mr Ouda received a total of 5,362 votes. He is Nyanza’s sole serving MP who did not receive an ODM nomination ticket.
Mr Victor Owuor Radido received 269 votes in third place, while Mr Elijah Bonyo Oburu, son of Dr Oburu Oginga, received 172 votes in fourth place.
After 23, 665 votes, Ms Ruth Odinga secured the ODM ticket to run for the Woman Representative position.
Members chose her above her closest rival, Dr Rose Kisia, a former Kisumu County Executive Committee member for Tourism who received 13,999 votes.
Grace Akumu, the former head of the Citizen’s Convention Party, former Kisumu city manager Doris Ombara, former Kisumu lands CEC Judith Attyang, philanthropist Beatrice Atieno, and Central Seme MCA Sally Okudo were among the other candidates.
Professor Tom Ojienda received 39,336 votes in the same primaries, defeating nominated senator Rose Nyamunga, who received 18,319 votes. Prof Ayiecho Olweny, a former Muhoroni MP and the chairman of the Kisumu County Party Coordinating Committee, finished in third with 10,794 votes.
