Police in Busia confiscate over 400 bags of sugar smuggled in from Uganda worth around Ksh.2 million.

The bags smuggled were recovered from a residential home in Nasira village, Nambale on Wednesday night. The sugar was already repacked into Nzoia Sugar ready for supply on the report of Busia County Police Commander, Maxwell Nyaema.

“The sugar is in at least four hundred 50kgs bags valued around 2 million shillings in the Kenyan Market,” he said.

Police recovered Uganda’s Lugazi Sugar company sacks in which the sugar was originally packed. They arrested the homeowner’s daughter after the father escaped the raid and are thus requesting residents to bring forth any information that could help capture the smugglers.
