The Kenya Police Sacco has supplemented the government’s effort in providing personal protective equipment to its officers to prevent them from contracting covid-19.

Speaking during the donation exercise at the County Police Headquarters yesterday, the Sacco chairman David Mategwa said the 2,000 face masks, 280 (250mls) sanitizers and 4,000 gloves would be handy in ensuring the officers work with the confidence of keeping the virus at bay during and out of office hours.

According to the chairman, the donation is a countrywide exercise that would see over 102,000 members of the Sacco get protected from the global pandemic.

“We have distributed 480,000 gloves 40,000 (250mls) bottles of sanitizers and 200,000 face mask worth Sh33.2 million to police officers and communities within their catchment countrywide,” he said.

He added, “We have also reduced interests on loans to cushion our members from financial hardships occasioned by the pandemic that has caused economic slowdown to most Kenyans.”

Speaking at the same function, area County Police Commander Ayub Gitonga welcomed the move and asked more donors to come on board.

He lauded the Sacco for the gesture that will enable his officers easily follow the Ministry of Health guidelines.
