Raila Odinga, the Azimio presidential contender, has unveiled a comprehensive approach to boost his prospects in the crucial Mt Kenya region. The ODM’s leader will be in control of his own campaigning.
Mr.Odinga’s strategy team is hoping that the new approach would give his State House bid a much-needed boost.
Raila’s campaign staff was worried that his efforts in the President’s backyard were slow due to aspirants who lacked clear direction and coordination to motivate them.
Deputy President William Ruto, his presidential opponent, is said to have a firm hold on the Mountain.
The strategy aims to smear Deputy President William Ruto’s reputation and power in the region while encircling Raila’s strongholds. President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to join the campaign train.
Raila’s new strategy is to interact directly with Jubilee aspirants for seats in Mt Kenya counties. The candidates will serve as Azimio pillars in Raila’s grassroots presidential campaigns.
“You are my foot soldiers. I have come here alone without any ODM member because I am the Azimo La Umoja One Kenya presidential candidate. When you see Baba (Raila) you see President Uhuru Kenyatta,” Raila said.
In order to promote synergy, Raila requested that an appropriate coordination channel be built between grassroots aspirants and his presidential campaign staff.
“I have since directed that we get ward, constituency and county campaign committees and sync them with the presidential campaign secretariat,” Raila said.
