Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua

The former long-serving member of parliament for Gichugu Constituency and a High Court of Kenya Advocate has been cited as one of Kenya’s most powerful female politicians, with the capacity to persuade audiences in one direction.

Karua became a magistrate after graduation, serving in many regions of the country, including Nakuru, Kibera, and Makadara, for six years before going into private practice.

Karua is famous for championing human rights and speaking out against social injustice while practicing law.

Karua later became a vocal critic of the authoritarian regime of the country’s second president, Daniel Moi, and battled Moi’s dictatorial authority on several occasions.

Raila promised the audience at Kamukunji Grounds that he will announce his running companion today at 11 a.m. at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC). Karua has gotten support from a number of Mt Kenya leaders as well as female leaders from around the nation, who felt she was the ideal candidate for the role.

One of the main reasons why Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua was chosen, long after it appeared the team had settled on soft-spoken Prof Kithure Kindiki, was the fear that Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party presidential candidate Raila Odinga would use the choice of Deputy President William Ruto’s running mate to keep his main challenger out of the vote-rich Mt Kenya region.

Earlier, Karua had said she will have no problem if not picked as ODM leader Raila’s presidential running mate.
