President William Ruto has disclosed that Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki will camp in the restive Baringo county to restore peace.
Ruto said his government had designed a strategy that will ensure no lives are endangered by the bloodthirsty bandits wreaking havoc in parts of Rift Valley. The head of state explained that he had ordered the Interior CS to pitch camp in the war-torn areas and restore peace.
“CS Kindiki is not here today because he was in Baringo today. He was in Turkana yesterday. I have told him to leave his office in Nairobi to go and live in the North Rift until the banditry comes to an end. We have put in place all measures we can in our capacity as the government. We will deal with those few proud individuals and make sure no Kenyan loses their life to them,” Ruto told a church in Nakuru.
This comes amid chaos in the country’s North Rift region, which has resulted in the loss of hundreds of lives, the displacement of residents, and the loss of thousands of livestock.
According to CS Kindiki’s statement on Monday, over 100 civilians and 16 police officers have been brutally murdered in the last six months by marauding bandits and livestock rustlers.
The government has also ordered that anyone in the country who is in possession of illegal firearms and ammunition surrender them willingly within the next three days.
