Cristiano Ronaldo thanked Liverpool supporters for their outpouring sympathy following the death of his infant son.

The intense rivalry between Manchester United and Liverpool was put to rest in the seventh minute of Liverpool’s 4-0 win at Anfield on Tuesday, when the entire stadium erupted in cheers.

Liverpool supporters also sang “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” the club’s hymn.

After he and his partner Georgina Rodriguez shared the tragic news on Monday, Ronaldo missed the match to be with his family.

“One globe… One sport… One worldwide family,” Ronaldo captioned a video of Anfield leaping to its feet on Instagram.

“Thank you very much, Anfield. This moment of respect and compassion will stay with me and my family forever.”

Despite his team’s tremendous victory, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp characterized the ovation as his “highlight of the match.”
