Two have been arrested in connection with the murder of a JKUAT student.
Two suspected gangsters were detained on Wednesday in connection with the fatal stabbing of a Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) student in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

According to Juja DCIO commander Richard Mwaura, the couple was chosen from a group of seven people who were apprehended by detectives after Joel Juma, a fourth-year Industrial Chemistry major, died.

On Thursday, they are expected to be arraigned at Thika Law Courts.
“Undercover agents apprehended Joseph Muchiri, alias Agent, 22, and Paul Mbatha, 20, this morning, following a manhunt initiated after the student’s murder. DCI National Forensic Laboratory professionals conducted a rigorous forensic study of the crime site, which led to their arrest,” DCI said.

“The first suspect was apprehended in Kiandutu, Thika town, while the second was apprehended in Gachororo, Juja area, while attempting to flee our dragnet that had been expanded to Kiambu County.”

Mwaura announced the breakthrough while attempting to calm enraged JKUAT students who had protested the assassination of a fellow student on Wednesday.
The students demanded that authorities investigate the crime quickly and bring Juma’s killers to justice.

“There is no security here, no matter what time of day it is, and there is no guarantee that you will not be attacked by goons while going about your business.” One of the students told Citizen Digital, “We need protection here; we came here to study, not to be robbed and murdered.”

According to police accounts, Juma was killed at 2 a.m. on Tuesday when he and his fiancée went to obtain exam revision materials from a colleague who lived nearby.
Three knife-wielding thugs attacked the couple, with two of them attacking the deceased before slashing him twice in the chest and seizing his phone and other possessions.
The remaining goon would focus his attention on the lady, but after realizing that she was not carrying anything expensive at the time, he would leave her alone.
Detectives are closing in on the third suspect, according to the DCI, with operations to apprehend him already well advanced.
