Tharaka Nithi County Commissioner (CC) Beverly Opwora has warned youth including Chuka University students loitering in towns in the county during this period of Covid 19 that they risked being arrested
Speaking to the press at her office on Tuesday, Ms Opwora said there should be no idlers in towns and urged Chuka University students who have been reported to be back to the University hostels to go home until the institution reopens.
“Anyone found loitering in town without serious business will be arrested and this does not exclude university students now that the institutions are closed. Why spend money on rent when the institution is closed?” posed Ms Opwora.
The CC said youth found in market places without doing productive work will be arrested because they are not following the government directives of keeping social distance and some are not wearing the masks as required.
“We have received information that some university students are coming back and staying in the hostels yet the institution is not yet open. Let them know that they have a few days to go home before we take action, ” warned the administrator.
Meanwhile, the Meru South Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Albanus Ndiso has noted that traders at the Chuka Open Market are not taking the directives over Covid -19 seriously and are back to their routine of crowding.
