The World Health Organisation (WHO) in collaboration with Mombasa County government Tuesday launched a community engagement programme on Covid-19.

The campaign aims at creating more awareness on Covid-19 pandemic and to disseminate information on health protocols to combat the disease.

Speaking during the launching of the campaign vehicles supported by the WHO, Mombasa County Public Health Chief Officer Aisha Abubakar said the programme will cover all the six sub counties of Mvita, Likoni, Kisauni, Nyali, Changamwe and Jomvu.

The campaign is being spearheaded by the Mewa Hospital and a community-based organisation, The United Front.

Abubakar said each sub-county will be allocated two vehicles to sensitise and engage the public on how to combat coronavirus.

“This will supplement our previous engagement programmes through television, radio and newspapers,” said the health executive, adding that the vehicles will have a wider reach compared to the media programmes which many people can’t access.

Abubakar noted that due to the adherence of health guidelines by the residents, the county has managed to significantly bring down the number of Covid-19 positive cases.

“We’ve been able to package our information in the right way and majority of the residents have followed our guidelines,” she added.

The United Front chairperson Said Mabrouk said they will also be organising training within the community in each of the sub-county every week.

Mabrouk said the trainings will target youth and women groups as well as the opinion leader.
