The World Bank through the Kenya Urban Support Programme (KUSP) has disbursed Sh 150 million toward rehabilitation of municipal roads which link Mbale town with its suburbs.
Area Governor Wilber Ottichilo made the announcement on Monday when he commissioned rehabilitation to bitumen standards of Mbale-Tsimbalo-Munoywa road.
Addressing area residents, Ottichilo hailed the World Bank for allocating development grants to his government.
“We applaud the World Bank through Kenya Urban Support Programme for gifting us with funds for face-lifting Mbale town and its environs,”
remarked Ottichilo.
With the ongoing beautification of Mbale town courtesy of the World Bank, the governor expressed optimism the place would soon become an economic hub for Western region.
“With upgraded transport and communication networks, Mbale town will soon attract local and external investors,” he noted.
The county boss urged families living along the road to consider investing in real estate business, “Because I know this will be a prime place,” he added.
According to the work plan, tarmacking of the 2.8kilometre Mbale-Tsimbalo-Munoywa road will take a maximum of six months to complete.
The governor assured residents that the contractor- Tallon Africa Enterprise, will employ both skilled and unskilled youth and women from the area.
Deputy Governor Dr. Patrick Saisi and County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Planning, Lands and Housing Mr. Paul Mbuni accompanied the governor.
