Nakuru County has 66 confirmed cases of covid-19, the Health County Executive Dr Kariuki Gichuki declared yesterday

He said of the cases, one of them is an inmate at the local prison adding that 48 prisoners who came into contact with the patient have also been tested.

He said despite the high figure, the county has a less number of patients in their isolation facilities than those who tested positive because majority of them are truck drivers, who were tested at the Maai Mahiu Mobile testing unit and proceeded with their journey.

However, he said the truck drivers who tested positive but continued with their journey were traced in other counties and placed in isolation for management.

The county executive assured the residents that the surveillance team was conducting contact tracing of recently confirmed cases and 70 people were admitted at various quarantine facilities, while others have self-quarantined at their homes.

Dr Kariuki said the high number of new infections in the county, which has for a long time recorded only five cases, was a confirmation that the diseases was spreading like wildfire at the community level.

He urged the residents to be more vigilant and strictly observe preventive measures issued by the Ministry of Health.
