Nairobi gubernatorial candidate Johnson Sakaja

The National Council of Higher Education (NCHE) has been given permission by the High Court of Uganda to look into the academic credentials that Johnson Sakaja acquired from Teams University in Kampala.

Initially, Teams University had urged the court to prevent the NCHE from looking into whether the lawmaker, who is running for governor of Nairobi, was in indeed a student there.

Mr. Sakaja, the current senator representing Nairobi, requires a degree as one of the requirements for running for governor.

The application by Team University did not pass according to the deputy registrar of the Ugandan High Court, Mr. Jamson Karemani.

In response to a previous court order, NCHE backed down on its investigations, but the Inspector General of Police in Uganda was already looking into the situation, Mr. Karemani said.
