140 stray dogs that have been terrorising the residents of Kiplombe ward in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County have so far been captured.
The Uasin Gishu County Government in conjunction with Kenya Society for the Protection and Care Of Animals (KSPCA) and the Ministry of Interior launched a hunt for the dogs on Tuesday after the dogs mauled to death and feasted on a middle-aged man last week.
The park of stray dogs also killed a 70-year-old woman early this year and killed more than 40 sheep.
Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Abdirisack Jaldesa said they had to seek the services of KSPCA to contain the marauding canines since they could not shoot them with guns, adding that the dogs had become a threat to the lives of the residents of the ward particularly block 10 and Action estates.
The County Executive for Agriculture Samuel Yego said that the County was committed to ensuring all stray dogs are captured and urged residents who own dogs to ensure they took care of them.
“The stray dogs are posing great danger to human beings and livestock that is why the combined programme aimed at getting rid of them is critical,” said Yego
Yego also asked KSPCA to open an office in the county so as to serve the residents better, further praising the team from KSPCA for coming on time when the stray dogs had become a menace to the residents.
