18 victims of human trafficking who were allegedly about to be sold as slaves in the Gulf States have been rescued by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), who also detained three suspects.

According to a statement made public on September 7 by DCI, the 18 victims were lodged in a home in Athi River, Machakos County.

On Tuesday, September 6, a Transnational Organized Crimes Unit executed a raid at the warehouse in Athi River and captured the suspects as a result of a tip.

“Detectives have rescued 18 victims of human trafficking, who had been harboured at a house in Athi River, enroute to a destination in the Gulf where they were to be sold as slaves,” statement read.

“Meanwhile, the rescued victims are in protective custody as detectives continue with their documentation.”
