A disabled food and science nutrition graduate from the University of Eldoret is appealing for employment or capital to start some form of business, four years after she completed her education.
Speaking at their home in Boigesa village, Sameta Sub County in Kisii County, Judith Oroko, 32 appeared distraught after many of her applications were turned down by various organizations.
Oroko who had her right leg amputated above the knee after an accident while playing in school 19 years back was supported through secondary school by the Association of the Physically Disabled Persons in Kenya and later completed university education, courtesy of community well-wishers.
The fourth born among seven siblings claimed that efforts to reach officers at the County government for possible employment opportunity have been futile.
Her mother Hellen Oroko said she had suffered immensely while bringing up her seven children and is now appealing to well-wishers to assist her graduate daughter secure some form of employment to enable her become self-reliant.
On the other hand, her father Isaiah Oroko decried alleged discrimination against the disabled when it comes to hiring of personnel in both the public and private sector.
Contacted for comment, the County public service Board chairman Evans Mamboleo said jobs were scarce and urged those seeking employment not to lose hope.
