Should the Kenya Kwanza Alliance establish the next administration, Deputy President William Ruto has committed to support open tendering for military equipment, claiming that buying guns will not be a security concern.
He has stated that he will open up a tender for the procurement of military equipment to public inspection, removing the secrecy and mystery that currently surrounds the procedure.
He claimed that the procedure should not be made a big deal, questioning why the practice is kept private when police officers go around with rifles.
“Why is it a mystery and why is it in some dark room? The guns are all over in the streets carried by police officers what is the big deal anyway? They are classified as security purchases so a gun being sold for Sh20,000 is being sold at Sh60,000,” he said.
He was joined by Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja and Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria at Nairobi Baptist Church on Wednesday for a meeting with the Evangelical Alliance of Kenya.
He stated that he will ensure that the Inspector General’s office has its own budget and is completely independent in order to efficiently carry out its duty.
