The Government has declared Monday, May 25, a public holiday to allow Kenyans of Muslim faith to participate in Idd-ul-Fitr celebrations.
This was announced on Wednesday in a gazette notice issued by Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i.
“It is notified for the general information of the public that the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Co-ordination of National Government, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 2 (1) of the Public Holidays Act, declares that Monday, 25th May, 2020, shall be a public holiday to mark Idd-ul-Fitr,” reads the notice.
Muslims all over the world celebrate the festival of Eid al Fitr by starting the day with the Eid prayer.
After the Eid prayers, Muslim faithful greet each other with the customary Eid greetings, Eid Mubarak, with a formal embrace, three times.
