IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati stated at the Anglican Church of Kenya Bishops and Senior Clergy conference that the commission will spend Ksh6 billion on the process.
At the same time, Chebukati stated that the electoral commission is committed to ensuring that the elections are free and fair, and that one of the ways they do so is by assuring adequate manpower.
Chebulati was questioned by Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit of the Anglican Church of Kenya, who remarked that the electoral commission needed more time to prepare for the August elections.
Sapit further stated that the IEBC owes Kenyans a transparent result tallying procedure at all levels.
He went on to say that the polling agency needed to boost public confidence in order to provide a legitimate election.
Early preparations for the August elections, according to Archbishop Sapit, will allow the commission to conduct peaceful elections.
Chebukati also spoke about the summonses issued to politicians for risky talk. Despite the High Court’s finding that the commission lacks the authority to consider such cases, he maintained that the body is not impotent.
The IEBC was first prevented from hearing the vote-rigging cases against Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Chege and Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria by High Court judge Anthony Mrima.
The start of the recruitment process has yet to be announced by the IEBC. The electoral commission was forced to respond in March after a false advertisement dubbed
The commission rebuked the advertisement by issuing a social media warning to Kenyans. The IEBC was supposed to hire 262,665 voting and counting clerks ahead of the election, according to the false announcement.
