Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja

Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja is now seeking a six-month imprisonment of Prof. Chacha Nyaigoti-Chacha, the chairman Commission for University Education (CUE), for allegedly disobeying a court decision that postponed the revocation of his degree.

The CUE chairman, according to Sakaja, who is running for Nairobi governor, ignored court instructions to maintain the status quo in the case involving the degree certificate controversy.

Sakaja contends via attorney Elias Mutuma that Prof. Chacha made a public statement on June 20, 2022, commenting on the continuing legal dispute that has called into question the CUE judgment.

The cancellation of his alleged degree, according to Prof. Chacha, “still stands.”

The status quo ante should be maintained, according to Justice Jairus Ngaah’s ruling of June 15, 2022, which Sakaja claims was disregarded and disobeyed.

“We urge this court to be pleased to order the immediate arrest of Prof.Chacha Nyaigoti-Chacha. He should be presented in court and adjudged guilty for contempt of court, for breach of orders of the Honorable Court issued on June 15, 2022,” lawyer Elias Mutuma says.

He further demands that Prof. Chacha serve a six-month sentence at Kamiti Maximum Prison.
